<% elseif Request.form("location")="3" Then %>22/03/04- -TurboCASH Accounting is now world leader in Open Source accounting for small business
Cape Town - TurboCASH Accounting, developed by Pink Software is now the world's leading Open Source accounting package for small business. It is the leading small business accounting package on Sourceforge.net, the worlds biggest Open Source web portal.
In the 8 months since TurboCASH Accounting moved into the Open Source licencing model, over 10 000 new users have registered. Registrations have come from over 60 different countries. Translations are underway in over 9 languages. There has been strong acceptance in the UK and the USA.
The success of the package has been largely due to the use of the Open Source concept. With a very small marketing budget, based on cover disk promotions and web banners, the program has broken down barriers that normally reserve accounting for local packages.
"The amazing thing is how universal accounting standards are”, says Philip Copeman MD of Pink Software. “We find a need to make small terminology changes, but by and large one package fits all markets. All tax systems are basically very simple, a simple multiple of the transaction value. Because we started as a VAT system with multiple rates, we have been able to function in all foreign markets."
Copeman puts the success of the Open source campaign down to the value proposition. "Most countries have an established monopolist as the leading vendor supporting accounting systems. These companies behave like monopolists would – increased prices, annual licence fees, locked-in support contracts, and controlled channels of delivery. We spent R 6 Million developing TurboCASH and we now offer it as as a free download; this is a very compelling offer for a user."
The quality of TurboCASH is what is distinguishing TurboCASH from other Open Source packages. Users are discovering that TurboCASH is not only as good as the commercial packages, but because it has been developed after Y2K, it has many advantages over the old fashioned closed packages. TurboCASH comes with a sophisticated XML import/export that allows the program to send data massages to and from other packages and programs.”
“The Open source model offers a completely different motive. Users can download the software free. Partners can download the source free. They start out in a relationship with us in which they know that they can never be trapped in an annual licencing model. Partners are free to leave with the source whenever they wish. We make our money from addons like documentation and training material. We also offer partners the opportunity to develop third party plugins for TurboCASH.”
Users can download a free copy of TurboCASH Accounting from this website. The CD can be purchased from the TurboCASH shop.

22/03/04- -Yes Express, the first user to adopt TurboCASH's integrated point of sale system, now generates over 100 000 invoices per year using TurboCASH
Cape
Town - Just over a year ago we put TurboCASH Point
of Sale into Yes Express, a computer retailer who then was a
user of a well known commercial competitor of ours, who had
just changed their upgrade offer to include an annual licence
fee for their accounting and Point of Sale system.
As they were the first user of the system, there were some glitches,
but we were able to overcome these.
We converted their accounting data with our 5.22 data converter
to TurboCASH 7 with Point of Sale. A year later Yes Express
has run successfully for a year and has processed over 100 000
transactions.
They are dealing with more transactions than before and are
following 3500 stock items. Under their previous system back
invoices would have to be archived. Under TurboCASH, Invoice
recall is almost instant over the entire period.
Their data backup has reduced from 100Mb per year on their old
system to 4.5 Mb on TurboCASH. So this is a positive result
of our database design and use of the BDE.
The cost savings to Yes Express have been enourmous. Instead
of an upgrade costing thousands, followed by yearly licence
fees, they paid a few hundred rands for the Open Source TurboCASH
CD and now have an improved system.
Wayne Flint of Yes Express is very confident of POS systems
using TurboCASH. He also has extensive experience with large
scale POS systems from the mainframe days.
If you have
you own Point of Sale Software, then we also have good news
for you. The TXF data exchange format has now reached an advanced
stage. We have a messaging system that will allow TurboCASH
to "talk " to a trading system. We are currently implementing
this with a developer who has a need to consolidate over 200
separate stores. (Over 800 machines in the network!)
TurboCASH can now easily accept day end proceedures and cashups
remotely. This is done through a Third party plugin in, Razor
Accounting Server. If this is of interest to you please contact
